Keeping your hair short would enable you to maintain (dries up and sets faster after showers) it better and experiment with a whole list of short hairstyles.

Even though this practice would dry your hair faster, it would break the same as well.

Wet hair is very gentle and can easily break with too much force.

Alternatively, you can pat your hair dry with a towel or soft cloth.

Combing wet hair would also lead to hair fall in men.

Wet hair is very fragile and so breaks very easily when you pull it using bristled brushes.

Alternatively, you can use your hands to carefully comb through and set wet hair.

Use a regular brush only after your hair dries up completely.

Apart from the fact that it is a great experience, the barber’s shave with hot towels and a cut throat razor  is very hard working in itself and great for your skin. The shave is much closer than you are likely to achieve in front of the bathroom mirror, and most men regard it as their own version of a skin maintenance programme.

Removes razor bumps and in-growing hairs

During the traditional barber’s shave, the blade removes up to 4 layers of dead skin cells – so it is like an exfoliation treatment. The shave itself is especially good for getting rid of in-growing hairs as the cut throat razor literally pulls each of them out. You will see blood spots (they are little spots of blood caused by pulling the root of the in-growing hair out) during the shave, but after the shave is finished the bumps created by in-growing hair will subside.

Helps you achieve a closer shave yourself

Regular barber’s shaves train your skin and allow you to get closer with your own razor. Your skin becomes resistant to irritation from razor burn, and you are able to shave against the direction of the grain without the fear of causing razor bumps.

Firstly we place a hot towel over your face. The heat from the towel softens your stuble and opens the pores. The hot towel also just feels great and relaxing.

Step Two :

We then use a badger brush to whip up a shaving lather using the highest quality shaving creams and oils. We then apply the shave cream on to your face using the badger brush. The badger brush is used as the badger hairs retain their heat and ensure that the lather feels warm when applied. Using a circular motion, the badger hair brush prepares the hair for the shave.

Step Three :

We then slowly work down either side of your face, your upper lip area and then your chin and neck area using slow downward strokes. This is the first shave.

Step Four :

After re-lathering of your face, we work on the same areas again, but this time going against the grain of your hair. Throughout the shave, our staff gently stretch your skin using their finger thumb, and palm to ensure that they get as close a shave as possible. They will also look at the growth direction of your stubble or beard and decide on the best direction of the razor stroke to get the closest shave. During this phase it is common for men to fall asleep.

Step Five :

Once all the hair has been removed, we then close the pores and soothe the skin using an ice-cold towel. This really wakes you up.

Step Six :

One more hot towel to open your pores again to allow the balm and moisturiser to do its work.

Step Seven :

We then apply a high quality after shave balm to further soothe and protect the skin, and then we apply a moisturiser to re-hydrate the skin. We use a moisturiser which has sun protector within it because after a cut throat shave your skin is more susceptible to skin damage from the sun.

Make sure that its growth is even and covers all the main parts of your face. There is nothing worse than an un-even beard. If hair doesn’t grow in a particular part of your face, then it is probably best to not have a beard at all.

Try and keep the shape as natural as possible. The over-styled, designer beards of the recent past are (in our opinion) decidedly naff.

Keep your beard well trimmed and groomed. There is no real guide to what the length of your beard hair should be, as this depends on your overall face shape and look you’re trying to achieve. However, make sure it is tidy, and that it tapers off nicely. Try to avoid hard edges to the beard.

Condition your beard so that hair looks healthy and clean. Normal hair conditioner is fine, although there are specific beard products available. A conditioned beard will feel softer and cleaner to the touch. This will be appreciated especially by your partner.
